The three Ashra’s of Ramadan, Ist Ashra is of first ten days, 2nd Ashra is of middle ten days and 3rd Ashra is of last ten days of ramadan. This third Ashra of last ten days have great importance for Muslims. First night of third Ashra is on the 21st day of Ramadan. This night starts after the completion of 20 days of fasting. When the month of Ramadan is of 29 days then there are only nine nights. However, they are still referred as “the last ten nights.”
The last ten nights of month of Ramadan are of great importance and in last night’s, Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) used to spend all of his time in worship. A true Muslim must also spend this time period in Quran learning and understanding. However, in the last ten days there is the night of Laylat-ul-Qadr which is also known as the Night of Power. This night is blessed than thousand months. Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) often uses to worship in the last nights and people go for Ihtikaf in this time period. He worshiped the most during this time period as compared to the other nights of year.
Hazrat Aisha (R.A) told about the worshipping of Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) in these nights and said: “During the last ten nights of Ramadan, Prophet (P.B.U.H) would tighten his waist belt and spend the night in worship. He would also wake up his family.”
Performing Itikaf in the last Ashra:
Muslims sit in Itikaf during the last Ashra of Ramadan, It means secluding yourself from the rest of world and spending the last ten days in Masjid praying for the blessings of this month. Perform the Taraweeh Salaat every night. It was also seen that Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) used to spend all the night in reciting complete Quran till morning.
Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) also prescribed Itikaf for all his Ummah and said that by doing this one can purify his heart. Remembering Almighty Allah from the bottom of his heart will take away all the anxieties of heart in such a manner that he can overcome these. By remembering Almighty Allah, a person can get close to Him and will also be able to achieve His blessings. This also gives a person the feeling of contentment and he can prepare himself for the life after this world.
It is vital for a person who is making Ihtikaf to perform the obligatory prayers, keep on worshipping Almighty Allah and recite the book of Holy Quran to praise about his greatness and oneness. Hazrat Aisha (R.A) also said that Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) used to tell his family for offering prayers to gather the blessings of Almighty Allah.
Laylat-Ul-Qadr(Night of Blessings): Surah Al Qadr
One of the most important aspects of the last ten days is to seek the Laylat al-Qadr which is also known as the Night of Power. One of the last ten odd nights is Laylat-ul-Qadr, and this is the greatest night of year.
About the night of Laylat-ul-Qadr, Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) once said:
“Whoever spends Laylat al-Qadr in prayer, believing in Allah and seeking His reward, will be forgiven all of his past sins.” (Al-Bukhari & Muslim)
As these last ten days of Ramadan are the most blessed ones therefore everyone should increase his worship during this time period.
